Pet food drives make our world go 'round! When our community comes together, there's no shortage of love. It warms our hearts every time someone shows compassion for the animals in our care.
We're so grateful to Charlie for choosing our shelter as the focus of her Bat Mitzvah Project. Charlie organized a successful pet food drive and, with the help of her friends, created more than 20 handmade no-sew blankets for our animals. Her hard work and dedication resulted in donations ideal for keeping our pets warm, fed, and comforted.
We're very proud to be supported by Charlie and her family, and thankful for the care and compassion she showed through this project. Her efforts made a meaningful impact for the animals we serve! Thank you to everyone who organized or supported a pet food drive in 2025 and helped keep our pets happy and fed! |

Meet Kendo!
Kendo is currently our longest resident pup and a beloved favorite among staff and volunteers alike. With his good looks and friendly personality, we're all baffled why this boy hasn't been scooped up yet! This tall, elegant, and wonderfully unique 1-year-old mixed breed weighs in at 54 lbs and turns heads everywhere. With his tan/yellow coat accented by white, and his graceful, prancing walk, Kendo carries himself with a little extra flair. Kendo walks beautifully on leash, listens attentively, and takes treats with gentle manners. He strikes the perfect balance between independence and affection—happy to explore the world around him, but always checking in and staying connected with his people. He’s curious, confident, and open to every adventure life has to offer.
This special boy has become a local celebrity and has been featured in the news twice! Kendo was mentioned in an article [linked here] about Drew, a student whose senior project centered on helping our shelter pets. And, he was featured on Studio 10's Place a Pet segment in December.
To meet Kendo, call us at 401-783-7606, x 105, or complete an adoption questionnaire today.

Each month, ARRI celebrates a dedicated volunteer who goes above and beyond for our animals. This month’s honoree, Leah, shared a bit about her experience: Why do you volunteer at ARRI?
“I love spending time with the animals. Even a half hour gives them a break from the four walls they see every day. They’re so excited to go for a walk and so content when they return. Loving on these well‑deserving dogs is incredibly rewarding—and great exercise, too.” What's your favorite part about volunteering at ARRI?
“ARRI does so much good. The pet pantry keeps pets with families facing hardship, and the free humane education programs help our whole community. I also love the community rooms and play yards—they let dogs relax, play, and just be dogs.” Who is your current ARRI Favorite animal at the shelter or something you like helping with at the shelter?
"My current favorite animal at the shelter is Kendo. The first time I met him, I was sure he would be scooped up in no time, and I’m not quite sure why he’s still there. He’s such an easygoing, happy-go-lucky, and loving boy. He reminds me of Hero, a past favorite who eventually found a wonderful home. I love getting to know each dog’s personality—their strengths, quirks, and challenges. Some of them, especially the long‑timers like River, JJ, and Chipotle, will always have a piece of my heart.”

Thank you, Leah, for dedicating your time and giving your heart to ARRI and the welfare of our animals! |

Happy Ending: Willow Puff |
|
|
Winnie, now known as Willow Puff, has found her perfect match—and it shows in every cuddle, purr and meow. Her adopter, Mary, recently shared an update that melted our hearts:
Adopted on December 28, Willow settled into her new home almost immediately. She’s a total love-bug—snuggly, inquisitive, and quick to curl up in any available lap. A very chatty girl, Willow has different “mews” for everything, including a puzzled “mew?” when introduced to something new. She bonded easily with children and grandchildren, loves following her people around, and brings constant joy to her family.
Her adopter shared, “It’s obvious that Animal Rescue Rhode Island gives their pets so much care and attention. We are so happy we found you so we could have this amazing kitty in our lives!” Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, cats like Willow Puff are able to find the loving homes they deserve.
We’re so grateful to Mary for giving Willow Puff the loving home she deserves. Stories like this remind us why we do what we do: because every pet deserves a happy ending. Thank you all! |
